A Quick Look at Wellness
By Paula Williams-Iverson
When we think of wellness, we like to look at the complete picture and engage a holistic approach to being well. A holistic approach is an all-encompassing mentality, taking into account all parts of your life and how they relate to each other. Using this holistic philosophy should help keep yourself running at full capacity or will provide some insight into why your wellness is not where you want it to be! This interconnection is why we need to think holistically; consider the impact that each area of your life has on you and how when one area is out of sync can create an imbalance which impacts your whole system.
Our wellness may naturally become out of balance because we are human beings with, expectations, deadlines, bills to pay, and goals that we strive to achieve. We put pressure on ourselves and we often have to let some of the areas of our lives diminish. Sometimes so much so that we throw off our balance so much that we become anxious, short tempered, unsettled, ill; we may have trouble sleeping and have difficulty controlling our eating habits!
When you are actively engaged in preserving, protecting and enhancing your wellness this allows you to be grounded and ready to embrace any challenges that come your way! It may even be a way for you to grow and explore the person you are or want to become.
Let’s take a look at the significant areas of our lives that are connected to our well-being.
